How I became a Christian

One of the biggest ways I’ve been blessed in my short lifetime was to grow up in a Christian household.  My parents saw to it that I attended and participated in church activities from birth through my high school years.  I was baptized before I was 10 years old, but I didn’t feel it was an educated decision.  I was rebaptized my senior year of high school after I decided to join the ministry.

How God called me to Bible Translation

During my senior year attending Kentucky Christian College (now University), I had been through two preaching internships, but still didn’t have a complete peace about preaching ministry.  Late October 2003, Greg Pruett, president of Pioneer Bible Translators (PBT), came to KCC and spoke during chapel about the great need of Bible Translation throughout the world.  His sermon moved me so I made an appointment to meet and speak with him later that day.  I explained to him several parts of my life, including my lack of peace about preaching, and he encouraged me to attend an internship with PBT that following summer.  I agreed to pray and consider the idea for a month.  It seemed like such a large step to take without some sort of confirmation from God.  I prayed that month and God worked in my heart.  After a month I was thrilled to apply for the internship to West Africa .  It was easily the hardest summer of my life.  It was also the most rewarding.  One afternoon on that internship Greg explained God’s plan, through Scripture, to get his saving word to every nation, tribe, people, and language (Rev 7:9).  It was like I never heard it before and I knew what I was called to do.  Now Megan and I are serving in East Africa seeing and experiencing the fruit God is growing through his Holy Spirit.

How I met Megan

After returning from the PBT internship in Africa, I started a master of arts in Intercultural Studies at Lincoln Christian College and Seminary (LCCS).  During the internship I realized that I deeply wanted a mate for ministry to support and be supported by.  So I was keeping my eyes open at LCCS.  During a winter term class, I met Megan in passing but it wasn’t significant.  It was later that spring that we both attended a dinner, hosted by PBT, to recruit students from Lincoln.  I was already a recruit with PBT and was helping recruit students that evening.  That evening I noticed that we were interested in the same ministry (and that she was pretty) and soon after I found out that she had been interested in Bible translation and missionary work for years.  Never have I recruited so hard ;) and never again.  It seemed like only a month after dating we knew that our search for a mate was over.  We planned and prepared and were married on May 20th, 2006.  We’ve been happily married ever since.
